Football betting
Football offers more markets per fixture than any other sport, and loses more promotions than any other sport too. The cause is not difficulty of prediction but the geometry of prices: the most tempting selections in a one-sided fixture sit just below the minimum price that sportsbook offers demand.

Before markets, the settlement rule. Football bets are decided over ninety minutes plus stoppage time unless a market states otherwise, so goals in extra time and penalty shoot-outs never touch a match-result bet in a knockout tie. Postponements have their own clause: a fixture not played inside the stated window is voided, settled at 1.00 inside an accumulator, and the total price drops accordingly. Neither rule is obscure, and both decide more slips than form guides do.
Three families of market
Match result. The direct question, and the only one where a draw is a separate outcome. In a heavy mismatch the favourite is frequently priced below 1.30 — comfortably under the 1.50 threshold typical of qualifying-bet rules.
Goals. Over and under lines at 2.5 or 3.5, plus both-teams-to-score. Prices here cluster between 1.70 and 2.10, which is why goals markets are so often used to satisfy an offer — a habit worth resisting unless the line itself is the reason for the bet.
Asian handicap. Removes the draw. On a -1 line the favourite needs a two-goal margin for a full return, while a one-goal win refunds the stake. Quarter lines such as -0.25 split the stake in two, producing half-win and half-loss outcomes.
Market against condition
| Market | Typical price | Relationship to offers |
|---|---|---|
| Match result, strong favourite | 1.20 – 1.35 | Below most thresholds — does not qualify |
| Over 2.5 goals | 1.70 – 2.00 | Clears standard thresholds |
| Asian handicap -0.5 | 1.80 – 2.10 | Qualifies, though a refund counts as unresolved |
| Anytime goalscorer | 2.50 and above | Frequently excluded by name |
The refund row is the misunderstood one. Many rulebooks treat a stake-back outcome as an incomplete qualifying bet, because it neither won nor lost. The player believes the condition is met; the system records nothing.
A short pre-slip routine
- Pick the market before the team — the same opinion carries different value in a result market and on a handicap line.
- Confirm the price at acceptance, since that is the figure stored against the bet.
- If an offer is running, read the excluded-markets list before entering a stake, not after.
