The retirement clause

When a player withdraws mid-match, the outcome depends on which convention the bookmaker applies, and the two common ones produce opposite results. Under a one-game rule, the match-winner market is settled as soon as a single game has been completed, so the player who continues is treated as the winner. Under a completed-match rule, anything that does not reach its natural conclusion is voided and stakes are returned.
